Searching for COWGILL and DRAKE from Embsay and Thornhill/Bradford area
« on: Sunday 31 October 04 20:28 GMT (UK) »

I have just started looking for any COWGILL and DRAKE in the West Riding area. Both families were heavy on the weaving and spinning trade. Grandad John DRAKE retired from J Baines son, Bradford in 1965. Where was this and has it been demolished?? He married Jane COWGILL in 1925. anyone know them out there??

I was looking through the records left to me by my late father and came across a photocopy of an Emmott (of Cowling) will from the 1700s and one of the witnesses was named Cowgill.

There are quite a lot more Cowgills in the 1881 census at Wilsden which comes under Bradford. There were a terrific number of weavers of various kinds in Wilsden at that time. I found them whilst searching familysearch.
