Birmingham to Newcastle
« on: Thursday 10 August 06 08:43 BST (UK) »

Hi wonder if anyone can help with this one

My Gt Grandfather and his family moved from Birmingham to Newcastle between 1891 and 1900. Can anyone think of a reason why this move could of been made, could it of been industry that could of drawn them to the area

  Any suggestions welcomed

Hi

I would think you are right in your suggestion that work made them make the move, my family moved from Leicestershire to Middlesbrough for work in the Iron works,  Grin

Good luck

Hi Jane

That Proberbly is the reason, so far I havent come up with any other family member in the area, so Industry must be the answer.

Ainsley,

It could be any one or more of a pile of reasons, including work reasons, depending on his trade etc.

Some places in Northberland/Durham in C19th were like little United Nations, because of the attractions of plentiful jobs, in Coal, Shipbuilding, Railways, Chemical Manufacture, etc.

I moved from Newcastle to Birmingham in 1966. I did not pick Birmingham, I was sent there ( But enjoyed my 5 yrs there)

Hi

My 2xGreat Granddad (GRANT) moved from Birmingham to Newcastle around the same time, but the census shows when he was in Newcastle he was a Police Constable.
