My Mum made me pretty frocks
|
Hi
I've just been checking up on webcounters and metatags - obviously something unmentionable might happen soonish - and have found a reference (from no less that PaulE! ) about adding a stat counter to find out where people are coming from. This in addition to a web counter.
Unfortunately he says nothing more about the subject. Does anyone know of any bits of code or sources or could explain about stat counters and their usefulness, please?

Added - Paul has given me a url that 'explains it all'!

http://extremetracking.com/
I've tried that one before. It gives you information like the most visits at what time of the day, what day of the week, what month of the year, what browser visitors are using, resolution, Operating System, Continent/Country. It also tracks anyone who has accessed your site from a web search and will tell you what they searched for.
Edit: Oops already completed. My excuse it that it's 3am

Thanks both
I'll put up the RC standard counter and investigate the others - both Paul and Dinie use the statcounter version.
Sadly, the RC counter doesn't 'go' with my page so I might have to look for a counter that matches - I've put it on the extreme right
Did you have blanket in your metatags Bob

And don't forget if you want to track more than the home page you have to copy the code into each page you want tracked!!

Slightly different query but to do with my counter -
I've put in the code exactly as instructed and as NOF tells me to add additional html code. My counter appears in exactly the right place but when I test it is only showing the positive digits
e.g. - when it was 6, it just showed a white six on a black background. Now it's 39, it shows 39 in white on a black background.
I note that everyone else has zeros or whatever in front of the count (except Keith's of course which has far too many digits to count )
Is this normal?
Thanks
Gadget - you can tell I'm into detail now

Don't worry, I think that is right, with the particular one that is used by Rootschat, you don't get any 0's.
At least I don't either! So presumably they are using a different counter?

Or perhaps I'm getting paranoid
I think I'll just leave the RC counter up and then do all the fancy work when I know that everything else is working OK.
There's bound to be something wrong
I'll put the new site up at 3am or something
Thanks

Just leave the champagne handy
I'm now into final checks. Put in the metatags and then a big final testing. Then, hopefully, NOF's FTP will work like a dream

Gadget,
I, for one, have been eagerly awaiting the launch of your website. Congratulations that zero hour is almost here.

Thanks Elizabeth
I hope that you won't be disappointed. It has a lot of stories which is why it's taken that bit longer.
I've got masses more to add in the future - an ongoing project, indeed.
