Hi Gadget,
statcounter registers visits from internet webspace and from "local" webspaces (which means I have to keep going offline to test my local version )
You can also set a blocking cookie, so that once the website is uploaded, it won't register YOUR visits to the site.
So if the code is correct, then by going to statcounters homepage, and logging on, you should be able to see if your visits to your local site are being registered.
Don't know enough about NOF to say if what you've done is correct, but another possibility would be to rename the page (testing.htm), upload that, and we can look at the source text and (hopefully) tell you more

Thanks Bob
I did exactly what they told me - you should know by now that I always do what I'm told
I'll go into statcounter and see what's there and put up a testing page as well.
I'll get there with a little bit of help from my friends

I followed the instructions exactly too for NOF and it worked but of course I was working with a live website.
The instructions didn't seem to be difficult to follow at all.

Hi Kerry,
one of the statcounter icons is a big spanner, for "tools"
You can set the blocking coockie there
N.B. this cookie is stored on your computer, so
- it is only valid for that computer. If you have more computers, you need to set one on each computer
- if you delete your cookies when closing your browser, you need to reset the cookie each time before you visit your site.
Unfortunately each statcounter "project" only has one URL so I can't block web and local site. Like I said off-line testing means I realy have to go off-line and set "work offline" in the browser (Files -> Work Offline")

Update with statcounter code:
The test file on my HD shows an 'invisible hit counter' and missing image logo.
The test file on my webspace has nothing at all.
I'm sure I didn't ask for an invisible counter
Any ideas or shall I just put the whole thing up and give it a whirl

Hi Gadget,
just been looking at your source code, and found what you've just posted:
In two places, within <img-tags, there is a src="" i.e. the name of the image is missing.
I've compared it with my files, but first I need to know, what are you trying to get: 1) page tracking + counter 2) invisible page tracking, 3) page tracking with logo
I've only tried 1 and 3 so I don't really know what to expect for 2)

Hi Bob
Thanks for looking.
I thought I'd gone for (1). I just pasted the code that they supplied
Should I go and create a new project - I've been looking to see if I can find out what the spec was and if I can amend but can't see anyway of doing it
I'm nearly there now and this is getting $@&%*

ps - my 'real' pages still have the Rootschat counter, so I'll put that up and leave the statcounter code out for the time being.
It's just doing the FTP stuff now but think I'll wait until after dinner for that
Hope you'll be around
