Mighton of Moira
« on: Thursday 10 August 06 19:18 UTC (UK) »

Trying to trace my wife's relative.  I have William Meighton/Mighton/Miton marrying Fannay Baxter in 1843 at Moira.  I know they moved to Scotland and they appear in the 1861 census in Govan, Glasgow.  That is all I know apart from on his death cert it says his parent were James Mighton and Helen Clifford.  Any information about their existance in Ireland would be very appreciated.  Lasted fanny's parents were John Baxter and Cecilia Dummigar.

Father Listed as John Baxter mother as Cecilia on some and Cecily on one no maiden name on them.
I just entered fathers name and mothers forename Ireland all counties and thats what i got.

I'm wondering if Fanny was a pet name or maybe she hasn't been put on the IGI site? If Fanny is a pet name the Mary Baxter 1820 is in the right age range for a marriage in 1843. Do any of the other Baxter birth names fit in any where?

Colette
thank you so very much - I believe you are right.  Fanny could well be a pet/family name and Mary is the 'official' one.  So the Baxter side looks good. The Miten side is a bit harder to be absolutely sure about.  From William's death cert it would give a birth date of 1822 not 1818 - but I know from experience how much they change over a life time (especially my wife's!!).  It is a great shame that Irish records did not survive - I am lucky that most of my relatives are Scottish.

Thank you once again.

Hello Bryan
My husband is also related to the Mightons. His Grandmother was Fanny born 1889 who was the daughter of Thomas 1861-1900 and Jane Carlin
Thomas was a son of William 1818-1887 and Fanny Baxter 1829-1880
How is your wife related
Regards
Wendy
