Thomas HICKEY-Bridget GREEN
« on: Saturday 12 August 06 07:09 BST (UK) »

Thomas HICKEY married Bridget GREEN 19 NOV 1875 Dunedin, Otago.
Does anyone have these two in their family tree?
I am trying to find out if this Bridget GREEN is the Bridget GREEN who was born 10 Nov 1860 in Onehunga Auckland to George GREEN and Ellen PEAGUM.

Would their intention to marry certificate hold any extra information?

Thank you. Smiley

Thank you for your reply.
I know that my GREEN family travelled a bit.
My great great grandmother was born in Levuka, Fiji. Bridget GREEN would have been her sister.
Very confusing lol.

Thank you again for your reply.

Hmmmm I don't think this is my Bridget as she would have only been 20 in 1880.
Trial and error I suppose lol.

The whole family seems to just disappear!!
They appear again in 1874 and their surmame was changed to ISHERWOOD.
Very strange.

Hi there,

I can check the 1881 & 1893 NZ Elec Roll also marriages in NZ for you. This may establish areas they lived in etc. But I will need a rough area and definate surname and some first names. ( Surnames in Caps please)

You mention that the family changed their name to Isherwood, do you think perhaps the mother remarried and the children took the surname of the new Husband ?

Let me know if I can help.

Cheers

Hi there,
Thank you for your message.

I have searched NZ marriages for any marriage of Ellen PEAGUM and George ISHERWOOD but have found none.
There is a marriage in 1877 of Ellen GREEN to George GREEN. It's very strange.
Ellen GREEN/ISHERWOODS daughter Ellen was born in Fiji according to her marriage certificate.

Bridget and Thomas HICKEY lived in the Oamaru area.

Is there a George ISHERWOOD in the 1881 census?
Thank you again.

Hi there,
Thank you for that.
I know that George ISHERWOOD died 1893 in Auckland.
Perhaps they were still overseas in 1881.
So confusing!!

I'm sure I will find them all soon.

Thank you
