Can anyone help. I have had a Search Engine on my site forever and suddenly it has stopped workin I am unsure if it is the provider or whether Rootschat has stopped this function.

Hi Bob, Thanks for your reply I have been emailing them for days but no reply. They have just changed there service over to their new one and I am sure it is an error on there part. If I dont hear today I will get a new search.

I have just tried again and these are the errors I got Can you help

I dont have a problem connecting, But that is the error message I get when I try and index the pages on the search engine site. It is a new problem and I guess it is there problem. I have put a temporary search feature up until they get back to me.

Hi Bob, Thanks for all your help I am really lost here I guess I am not a computer literate as I thought. I just got a reply from Atomz about the search feature. This is the reply.
We are seeing timeout errors in your index log when we attempt to
index your web site. This is an indication that your server is taking
more time to serve up pages than our search robot is waiting for the
data. I have doubled the time the search robot will wait but that did
not help. I would suggest that you consult with your web host to see
if any adjustment can be made on that end.
I also noticed in your index log that there are references to a
robot.txt files. If you are trying to use a robots.txt file, it is
not working properly. If you are not using one, you might need to
look into why we are being directed to one.
I'm sorry that I don't have an immediate answer for you but if you
feel that you still need my help, please feel free to contact me again
I have put a temporary search feature on the site which is working, What is the robot file
I appreciate any help you can give

Hi barb,
robots.txt is a text file on your site (Trystan always loads a default version) which enables you to tell search robots whether they can index the site.
the default is
User-agent: Mediapartners-Google*
Disallow: /
which means allow Google to search and disallow nothing i.e don't ban them from anywhere on your site
(if you had private data on a folder on your site called 'family_only'
you could put a line
disallow /family_only/
and search robots (well behaved ones !!!) wouldn't go there)
That is as far as my knowledge goes, for your problem, so I'm flagging it up to Trystan (Admin)

Hi again Bob, Trystan or anyone  I have had another email from Atomz as follows
It turns out that the problem is that your ISP is blocking us. Our IP
address is 64.191.196.54. If they will unblock that address, your
search will start working again. If you need any further information
from us, please let me know.
I have been on the phone to my ISP and they dont block IPs They suggested that it may be that the settings or that it may be blocked at Rootschat.
I appreciate your help on this
