Hello, Just a guess, but could it be Annerley Lerston/Lerstin - hmm not sure now, the "y" at the end of Annerley is not similar to the "y" in Story at the end of a word, the writer uses more of a flourish? The first two are Jane Davison, John Story? Newbie

Looks like? Sowerby Forster. That is the best I can do. Since posting this yesterday, I came up with the bright idea of checking the IGI, just to see if there was a person with such a strange name. There were five listings! I can't believe it! Three births and one death in Cumberland, plus a marriage in Lancashire. Right time frame, too. No.1 Sowerby Forster b. 02 Mar. 1782, Bolton, Cumberland Parents: John Forster Margaret Forster No.2 Sowerby Forster b. 02 June 1799, Bolton,Cumberland Parents: John Sim Frances Forster apparently illegitimate, name given as Forster or Sim
No.3 died young There is also a marriage:
Sowerby Forester and Margery Hodgkinson 04 Dec. 1799, Leyland, Lancashire Of the three candidates, I would consider the one born in 1782 to be most likely. Of course, I may be completely wrong. Perhaps the name in the register is not Sowerby Forster. I am still in a state of shock. However improbable it seems, I came up with a name which really did exist. Carmela

I dont think so. Certainly not a descendent of the Joseph Hardy born Carlisle 1818, but further back than that we may cross paths.
I have just ordered the parish records for St Mary's and St Cuthbert's Carlisle, so hopefully will find out more about him.
Will post back if that changes, please let me know if your Hardy's end up in Carlisle.
Thanks
Ste4en
