I've been with Freewebs for quite a good while.

Have a couple of FREE Sites and happy with their set-up

One thing that annoys me is the very slow process to upload files, one at at time for Free Sites.

I just want to know if its the same with some of you who have a Free Site and if you have a paid-for site does the process becomes faster.

The transfer is often limited by your upload speed which is generally a small fraction of your internet connection speed.

That coupled with a limited ftp process can slow things right down, but  the old adage "you get what you pay for" springs to mind as I have no problems with the companies I use (pay )for web space.

Hi Rover,

As an example for a free web space:
RootsChat webspace is free, and you can use any FTP program to upload to it, in batches, or one at a time.

There is also a file manger provided, but that is limited to, at the most, 4 files for uploading at once, so most RootsChatters use an FTP program.

I don't know what sort of speeds you are used to elswhere, and I only use FTP uploads on various RootsChat sites (my site, the tutorial site, 1901 Leftovers and the Surname Interests table) and I have never felt that it is particularly slow.
