"Vanishing" Elliot family - FOUND
« on: Friday 18 August 06 10:18 UTC (UK) »

Hi there,

I am looking for any trace of one of my Elliot families, who I lose track of after 1893.  I am not sure if they left Roxburghshire for another county, Scotland for England or the UK for Canada or Austalia, but if anyone has seen any of them, I would be grateful for any pointers.

Details are as follows:
James Elliot (b. 22 March 1848 - parents William Elliot and Catherine/Christian Crozier) married Margaret Murray (b. ca 1854 - parents John Murray and Davina Lunn) on 6th Dec 1872 in Castleton, ROX.

They had the following children:
Devina - 11/01/1873 to 10/05/1896
William - died as infant in 1874
John -  died as infant in 1874 (twin of William above)
William - b. ca 1875
Catherine -  b. ca 1877
Elizabeth Murray - b. 22 May 1878
John - b ca 1880
Mary Cowan - b. 22 Aug 1882
Margaret - b. 3 Jan 1885
Agnes Jane  - 17 Oct 1887
Margaret Nicol - 14 May 1893

Has anyone come across this family?

Cheers,
Clare

Hi Clare

I know we have corresponded before about your Elliot connections - have you thought of posting details on the boards for emigrants to Australia and New Zealand?

My Waughs pretty much all ended up in NZ in the late 1800's,and I know a lot of families from Roxburghshire ended up out there, especially around the southern part of the South Island (naming one town Roxburgh, funnily enough Grin).

Might be worth a try...

Regards
Pam

Looks like they ended up in England in 1901
