Strabane 1884 - 1891
« on: Tuesday 02 November 04 10:25 UTC (UK) »

William Whitager was born in August 1884 in Strabane, Co. Donegal (now I believe it is Tyrone) to parents David (a farmer) and Eliza Whittaker.

David came from/spent time in  either Creahagadoos, Taughboyne or Clonleigh or Sheercloon in Co. Donegal.

Eliza from Milltown in Co. Donegal.

William was in Port Glasgow as a lodger in 1901 age 19 (although his true age would have been just over 16).

David (may have) died in Ayr in 1900.

William lived, married, had a family and died in Port Glasgow.

How can I find out (or can anyone help in finding them?):

Where they all were between these dates?
When did William and/or his parents come over to Scotland before the 1901 census?
When did Eliza die (after 1905 I believe).
Where are they buried?
If the rest of the family were still in Sheercloon between 1901 and 1912 where would they be buried and what would have been their parish C of I church?

Any info. would be great.  Thanks

HI,

The 1891 (and 1851-1881) census was destroyed so you need to go to the birth indexes available at your local family history centre.  1901 census is not indexes so you need a townland or parish to search.

Strabane is in Co. Tyrone - not Co.Donegal - although it is very close.
