I hoped I could help, but I can't. I have Balfours in Fife as well, but I don't think they're connected to the ones you mentioned. I have a Janet Balfour, born 1816 in Pittenweem, married to David Nicoll and daughter of George Balfour & Jannet White. George and his father, also George, were apparently born in Largo.

I am new to this site and am still finding my way. I have Balfour's in my family. Janet Gilmour Balfour was my great grandmother. Her parents were William Balfour, a coalminer inspector in Auchterderran, and Mary Clark. My grandmother, Mary Arnott and her brother, Thomas were the children of William and Janet Arnott. Can anyone give any more info on this family from Fife?
Many thanks Lorraine

OK Bambie and everyone
What can you add to this for me?
JOHN SKINNER died Bef. 1890. He married (1) CATHERINE BALFOUR. She was born Abt. 1796, and died Dec 1826 in Thornton, Markinch, Fife. He married (2) AGNES ANDERSON 30 Nov 1827 in Crail, Fife. Notes for JOHN SKINNER: 1841 Census Residing in Thornton, Markinch, Fife
More About CATHERINE BALFOUR: Burial: 23 Dec 1826, Markinch, Fife
Notes for AGNES ANDERSON: 1841 Census Residing in Thornton, Markinch, Fife Children of JOHN SKINNER and CATHERINE BALFOUR are: CHRISTIAN SKINNER, b. Abt. 1819, Kilconquhar, Fife; d. 12 Feb 1890, Broom Cottage, Scoonie, Fife.
CATHERINE SKINNER, b. 24 Sep 1820, Newburn, Fife. 1841 Census Residing in Thornton, Markinch, Fife in the house of David Crawford, Grocer, his wife and six children
JOHN SKINNER, b. 18 Mar 1823, Kilconquhar, Fife. Baptism: 20 Apr 1823, Kilconquhar, Fife
WILLIAM SKINNER, b. 08 Dec 1826, Markinch, Fife. Baptism: 23 Dec 1826, Markinch, Fife
I have the information that John remarried and had more children with Agnes but, for now, I'm hoping someone can give me a bit more on Catherine ... she died very young!
Regards

Aye mair questions than answers in a world where the past was a different place - that cannae be revisited! Family surnames being researched ... Crawford, Neilson, Lindsay, Reekie, Davidson Drummond, Pearson, Laing ... will do for starters but there's a whole lot more! Census information Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

hi chiad
this is from fife death index
catherin skinner/ balfour abode markinch date of burial 23 dec 1826 age 30 wife of john skinner son william skinner interred 11 sept 1825 source opr 447
William SKINNER Markinch,Lochty Bridge 11 Sep 1825 age 15d son of John Skinner Int next to Barbery Skinner int 19 Apr 1819 OPR OPR 447

going by this theres a previous william you don't have, and catherin (all probability) died from complications due to childbirth of second william. mother buried and child baptised on the same day.
