Carrie

The children of John Allen & Sarah Bracegirdle are as laid out on Wendy (SpinnersChase) posting above.

Children of Robert Allen & Sarah Ann Taylor are as follows :-

Robert - chr 23/08/1835 Stepney
Matthew John -chr 13/09/1837 Whitechapel
Ann - chr 09/02/1840 Stepney
Thomas - b 1843 Stepney
Mary - b 1845 Shoreditch
William - b 1847 Shoreditch, chr age 16 21/06/1863 Hemingford Abbots
Sarah Ann - b 1849 Hemingford Abbots, died 1858
George - b 1853 Hemingford Abbots
Alice - b 25/06/1855 Hemingford Abbots
Walter Charles - b 1858 Hemingford Abbots

Before I give more details, let me know which of these Allen's you descend from & I will give you that first, rather than list the lot now.

I have not investigated all these Allens, just those that were identifiable from census & BMD entries. When I went to Hunts record office I did write down every Allen I found baptised, married & buried from the Brampton PR (1790-1820) just in case.

Regards John

Hi Carriej

Forgive me for butting in John. The best starting place to look for information on parishes is on www.genuki.com

There's no mention on there of an alternative name. Each parish had just the one established church at that time - St Mary Magdelene in the case of Brampton (although a larger town could have a number of parishes - but there was just the one in Brampton).

David

Carrie,  Sorry I do not have any info on your Thomas Allen. I am assuming witness 'Sarah's father' indicates Thomas's wife was named Sarah. The witness 'Mary' if named Allen could be Thomas's sister ?

Ok I am widening the net a bit ....

We've established that Robert Allen is son of John Allen & Susannah Bracegirdel. I am pretty sure John is son of Matthew Allen of Alconbury, who married Bridget Woodley of Buckden, on Dec 12 1780.

... and I'm sure that these had another son William chr 25 June 1798.

I'm now looking for a marriage of William to a Maria ?
They had George in 1820, James 1822 & William 1825

Can someone please find the marriage of William & Maria

Thanks John

Hi John

There's a William and Mary Redhead in 1818 in Elton, but that's a bit of a hike from Alconbury.

Where was George baptised? Do you have them in censuses?

Hello David

George (5/MAY/1820) & other children of William & Maria Allen, Bricklayer were baptised in Brampton.  George married his cousin Eunice Allen in June 1853, (Eunice born 1824 daughter of John & Susannah Bracegurdel).

On 1851 George is nephew in household of James Lucas & wife Bridget b 1792
- who most likely is sister to William & John.

Cheers John

Hi John,
I was in Conington over the weekend and there are lots of Allens in the churchyard all buried side by side. I've posted some background info on another topic
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,100207.0.html

hope it helps in some way

Best wishes

Hello Tony, Thanks for the information; however I have not yet found a link from my Allens of Brampton to any at Conington. I see on the map Conington is a few miles up the A1 from Brampton so perhaps not linked at all - who knows. Perhaps if you noted their names & dates & let me know I'll have a look in Hunts Record office when I go in December (if not sooner)

Hello to all,

I found this thread whilst Googling for information on the Allen family of Brampton. Not sure if it is of interest to anyone, but Robert Allen, whom this thread began with, had a brother John (also mentioned previously). This John married Charlotte Allen, from a completey seperate set of Allens as far as I can tell. This other set of Allens are the ancestors of my own family and I have an ever-growing tree containing Charlotte's brother Thomas, and many generations from him directly down to me! If anyone is interested in sharing info in this area, please post and let me know Smiley

Hello VMS & welcome to RootsChat

For the record, my paternal grandfather married Mabel Bishop, daughter of Thomas Bishop & Alice Allen b 1855. Alice was daughter of Robert Allen & Sarah.

I know Robert had brother John b 1820 but I haven't looked into what happened to him.
