"Forever Searching, Forever Learning"
|
Hi there
Would appreciate any help / further information on my Maternal Ancestors the Wilsons (yes, I know its the 12th most popular surname) of Bourne in Cambridgeshire.
My grandad (mums father) was born Arthur John Wilson on 27th June 1867 in Bourne, son of William Wilson & Jane Edwards.
I have the 1881 census entry for the family when Arthur John was 14 years old, but then family legend says that he went to Canada where pictures exist of him 'log rolling' in Quebec, but he is back in England in 1901 and married to his first wife Rebecca Hyman - but she died and he married my grandmother in 1916.
So where was he in 1871 aged 4 years and could anyone find anything any earlier about his parents William Wilson born 1832 in Bourne and Jane Edwards born 1844 in Caldecote, Cambridgshire.
It is believed that the above William was the son of John Wilson & Martha Clark and Jane was the daughter of Richard Edwards and Mary Ann Stokes - but not of this has yet been proved.
Mum says that her father was a quaker - so that may explain his move to Canada
Any help would be most welcome
