Hi, I have an ancestor who was a butcher untill his death aged 35 in 1840, at the time of his marriage in 1829 in Sandbach he was a butcher of Peover and I wondered please if anybody could tell me if that would be the same place as Nether Peover as I have noticed somebody with the same surname in Nether Peover at the 1851 who was a retired butcher and am wondering if the retired butcher could be the father of my ancestor (William Simpson).
Am very grateful for any help anybody can give me.
Thanks
Anna

Hi Scroppers, thanks very much for that, I suppose I would be going with the one that was nearest Sandbach, I think that might be Nether Peover. If anybody else has any thoughts on it though would be very happy to hear them.

Hi Anna,
If you look up on a modern map, Peover Inferior is what is now known as Lower Peover and Peover Superior is what is now known as Over Peover. I'm not sure about Nether Peover but if you look at this link: http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/chs/netherpeover.html it suggests that Nether Peover was very close to Peover Inferior(Lower Peover).

Hi Jean, Thanks for that, I use this site a lot, it can be quite useful. The confusing thing about this particular query is all the Peover's, they seem to be in the same kind of area as well, wonder if Nether Peover was in between Lower and Over.

Hi Kena,
From the census information posted earlier I'd suspect that Nether Peover was slightly to the West of Lower (Inferior!) Peover whereas Over (Superior) Peover is to the East - but just guessing because of it falling in Northwich district in 1851 and the proximity to the other places mentioned.

Oops Anna, I think that the link was for Nether Peover - I though it might help in finding out exactly where it was plus which parish was nearest etc.
I have the fiche for MI's at Lower Peover and had a look to see if your William Simpson was there but no luck - I think that it's likely that he would have had a stone but not certain. Also checked Gt Budworth, very strange, no Simpsons at all as far as I can see.

Hi Jean, Thanks very much for doing that for me, I noticed there were a few Simpson's of Lower Peover on the IGI. My William died in Sandbach so don't know if he was buried there or not (if he was the gravestone isn't there any more as I went to look round the graveyard at Sandbach St Mary's a while back). If his family were from Nether Peover at the time of William's death I suppose he might have been buried there.
Thanks again
Anna
