Avoch dialect
« on: Tuesday 22 August 06 14:24 UTC (UK) »

The dialect which is still spoken in Avoch by the older generation is quite unique in that it was not spoken in the surrounding villages and was very specific to the fishing community.
Any information on this subject would be appreciated.

Hi    Unfortunately I can't help with the dialect but I can tell you my gr grandmother was Jessie ( Janet ) Jack, dau of Lewis Jack  and Janet McLeman who married  16 Dec 1826 in Avoch. Jessie came to Australia and marr James Johnston  23 Sept 1859. They had 6 children all with Jack as their second name.     Val
