Hi James.  I downloaded the following marriage from ScotlandsPeople:

19 Jul 1871 at Paradise Road, Dundee.  After banns according to the Forms of the U.P. (United Presbyterian) Church.
Robert Lownie, Seaman, M.S.(Merchant Service) aged 29 of Dudhope Road, Dundee.  His parents, James Lownie, Iron Moulder (deceased) and Mary Webster (deceased).
Ann Munro, Cop Winder aged 27 of No.10 Dudhope Crescent, Dundee. Her parents, John Munro, Iron Moulder (deceased) and Catherine McGregor (deceased).  Just to add -
Robert's parents were married 18 Sep 1842, Monifieth, Angus, and they also had children Mary McLeish Lownie 24 Sep 1844, Monifieth, and James Lownie 21 Aug 1846, Monifieth.

Thanks for that Isles

I may have been following back the wrong Robert Lownie

Perhaps I need to revisit starting with my father James Munro Lownie born 4/12/1909 in Dundee ...he had 2 brothers and 1 sister ( she died quite young )

Their Father was James Lownie and he married Mathilda May

I can't have the correct Robert as born 1858. His marriage to Ann Munro shows in Dundee on 19 July 1871.

James, I agree, I think you might be going off track. Maybe the point to start at is with the marriage of James and Matilda, and with those parents' details from their certificate, work back to their parents' marriage. With James' parents showing potentially as 1871 in Dundee, there is this entry for example in 1891, all the family showing as born in Dundee:

Robert Lownie 48, AB seaman
William Lownie 20, Printers Clerk
James Lownie 15, Sailmakers Apprentice
Charles Lownie 11
Alexander Lownie 9
John Lownie 7
Margaret Gray 54, housekeeper

Address: 7 St Matthew St, Dundee

Isles, apologies, completely missed your reply on the details of the 1871 marriage  Tongue With that information and that 1901 census entry, this looks like Ann with children in 1881 - likely father off to sea I would imagine:

Ann Lownie 35, Seaman'S Wife, b. Glasgow
William Lownie 11
James Lownie 8
Charles Lownie 2

Address: 3 St Matthew St., Dundee

And the 1901 entry:

Robert Lownie 58, AB seaman
William Lownie 28, bookbinder
James Lownie 23, Sawmill Labourer
John Lownie 17, Linen Calender Hand

Address: 7 St Matthew St., Dundee

I am trying to research Williamina born 18.11.1888/1889 who was born illegitimate to Margaret Ann Taylor who later married Alexander Lownie. Williamina's grandmother was Margaret Ritchie who married Alexander Taylor - have you any information on the Taylor or Ritchie family. My email address is (*)
Thanks in anticipation

Hi Ev

Thanks for the information my grandmother was Margaret Ann Taylor's daughter but on birth certificate it stated she was illegitimate and although I have the information on the Lownie family tree it would appear she may not have in fact been related to them.

She had quite a hard time one son dying age 13 after an op husband died from an op when he was 37 and another son died in the war age 22.

Have you any other information on the Taylor side of the family?

Helen

I have details of theLownie familygoing back to Motehill. Does anyone want the details?

Having more trouble in finding the Taylor familyespecially my grandmother Williamina who was the daughter of Margaret Ann Taylor cannot trace where she went after her birth. I have found a Hellen Taylor who had a "daughter" of the right age living in Stonehaven but don't known if the information is correct. Has anyone got information on the Taylors?
