I also have an interest in Thompsons but I don't think there is any connection.

The IGI has a marriage of a William Thompson to Dorothy Barrow on 03 Sep 1827 in Heversham.  These seem likely parents of your Dorothy Thompson since Milnthorpe and Heversham are next door to each other.

There is also a record of a William Thompson born in Heversham in May 1806 and christened in July 1806.  His parents are Richard Thompson and Mary or Margaret Tinckler(?).

And a record of a Dorothy Barrow born and christened in November 1807 in Heversham to William Barrow and Mary.

I don't know if the dates match but they seemed probable contenders.
