Yes, I was shocked by the speed too!  It is amazing what can be done by a phone call!  No credit to me however it was one of my new cousins who rang!

What next...?

I have also found out that Rachel Thomas (nee Edwards) should still be alive in 1901 but I cannot find her either?  Are they all hiding somewhere together?  She was born in Dowlais, Wales circa 1845 and she moved to Middlesbrough with her husband John, he died between 1881 and 1891 as Rachel appears as a widow on the 1891 census.  Today it has been brought to light that she is mentioned on the 1918 obituary of her daughter Elizabeth Ann Hewitt (nee Thomas) so I presume she was still alive and kicking in 1918, I cannot find a death though (surprise surprise!)  (By the way, just in case I didn't say previously Rachel Thomas (nee Edwards) is the mother of Jane, Charlotte etc and the grandmother of Martha Jane (aka Pattie), Margaret and Rachel, I'm not convinced that Amy ever existed as I cannot find any records anywhere for her.

I was going to type something else but I've forgotten what it was......grrrrrr i hate it when that happens!

Hoepfully I'll remember soon

Love

HI Legs

Was Rachel Thomas referred to as such in the obit?

So the one I found in the 1901 census was not the right Rachel then?

See message number 9 and follow it again if you can't remember.

AS they did have a daughter called Amy as I said and maybe who had who has just go muddled up.

You could always check that marriage entry that I have also noted within that section to see if it tallies that she was def' Rachel Williams formerly Thomas nee Edwards.

Hiya Wendy and Legs,Have been following this and the Rachel that Wendy found looks the right one .Shes widowed thr right age and birthplace .So Amy would be Jane Williams nee Thomas sister not daughter as you thought.Considering we are in England there is a big connection To Monmouthshire and especially Nant Y glo .When i found Jane as a servant with Clark family they are from Monmouthshire as is Jane s Father John Thomas as is James Williams who is the second husband of Jane,s Mother  Rachel. And could possibly be the brother or relation of William Williams again born Wales (Father James) Jane,s husband .The Monmouthshire lot  seem to have stuck together up North.Best Wishes Welsh Lady

Oh dear - I've lost the plot!!!

Thank you for explaining it all to me - I am blonde!!!

So Rachel Thomas nee Edwards re-married a Mr Williams.....and Amy was their daughter, Janes half sister....am I right?  I totally missed that bit!!  Oh dear!

Wendy, on the obit Rachel was referred to as the deceased will be greatly missed by her mother etc etc, so it doesn't actually name Rachel...

Thank you again

Hi Legs

Happy to have helped out in the background.  But it still doesn't give you Jane Williams as a widow anywhere yet with or without her children.

I wonder

Could  she be in a Workhouse and just listed under her initials?

Yes, possibly or in a hospital...still can't find her though even with a search just for initials.

Ok,

Amy does exist she is the daughter of Rachel Williams formerly Thomas nee Edwards and her second husband (thank you Wendy!) James Williams, so not a sister of Martha Jane (aka Pattie), Margaret and Rachel but a half aunt.

Still no sign of Jane, Martha or Rachel on the 1901 however.....

Anyone seem them?   Smiley
