Steyning Riot 1835

Hi,

  I was hoping someone would have some information on the Steyning Riot of 1835.  It appears to have been in responce to the new Poor law amendment. In paticular I am interested in Two of the people mentioned as being part of it... Thomas and Edward Moon.  They were brothers, and quite possibly the brothers in my tree.
I am hoping to get some more information on the riot and hopefully something that will clarify if these are my Moon's.
Even if they aren't though the history of it is  interesting none the less....

Hi there - have you had a look at www.british-history.ac.uk/report.

About a third of the way down the riot is mentioned, there are footnotes, it looks as though the info has been taken from docs. held at West Sussex CR Office.

If you can't visit, try a phone call, worth a try  Undecided
