PLANTS in Suffolk
« on: Sunday 17 September 06 16:33 UTC (UK) »

Not a botanical search, although I reckon that would be easier.

I'm looking for the parents of James Plant, who was born about 1836 in Laxfield, Suffolk

I can find him in 1901, 1881, 1871, 1861 and, I think, 1841.

He seems to have vanished in 1891 and 1851 so, although I have a James Plant in 1841, his place of birth is Cratfield.

This search isn't being helped by the fact that the IGI gives 2 James Plants - one b. 1836, (with the parents James and Elizabeth) the other b. 1837 (parents John and Elizabeth) and although I've tried FreeBMD he may have been born just a few months too early for it to show up.

The James I'm looking for, married Hannah (?), probably between 1856 and 1861 (since he is 24 and married in the 1861 census).

I've been going round in ever decreasing circles with this guy - a second pair of eyes would be much appreciated.

 Kiss

You have made my day - thank you so much.

With the Majorams and Noyes' to contend with, along with the Plants you see why I go stir crazy occasionally!  You'd think there wouldn't be too much difficulty in writing the word 'Plant' - but it turns up under a number of guises, in one famous instance as 'Kent'!!

My family often complain that no-one seems to be able to spell our name correctly - I enjoy telling them that its been going on for at least 230 years to my knowledge, I doubt things are about to change now!

But, again, thank you so much for your time.   You've no idea how much I appreciate what you've done.

As a fellow PLANT researcher how could I not try to help  Wink

Have found James' family in 1891 - but not James himself.... Hannah has been transcribed as a Thirkettle ( Huh) despite the image clearly showing Plant Roll Eyes

And here's probably James's marriage to Hannah

September quarter 1860  Hoxne Reg District  4a, 717
(Hoxne covers Laxfield and Wilby)

James Plant = Hannah Atkins

and in 1861 who should be in their household as 'uncle' - John Atkins.
