Kincardine near Doune
« on: Thursday 04 November 04 01:48 UTC (UK) »

Hi,  Does anyone have "Fergusons "in their ancestory from this area. (main villiage THORNHILL Perthshire)  I would like to correspond with them.  My interest is John Ferguson and Family living at Moor Cottage  outside of Thornhill.  Just too many Fergusons  in that area, and need help. Date  1821 to 1870   wife, Janet, children Peter, John, Margaret,
Duncan, Colin,Ann, and others.   This family appears to be My Big Stone Wall. :>(

   Good digging to all

Hi

Thought I would let you know that I am having the same problem with a Cathrine(various spellings) Ferguson and a Duncan McNee and their family. Cant find any record of their marriage so cant get their parents also have problems with a McQueen/ Kean/ Kane from there. Kirklane / Thornhill is where they live.
This is in the period 1795-1836.
Good luck !

I've also not had any luck finding baptism c1892 of Agnes Brown from Thornhill, Perthshire. Her parents were Janet Ferguson & Thomas Brown, a currier who probably worked in the Thornhill Tannery.  There doesn't appear to be many Ferguson or Browns in the local graveyard.  I don't know where or when Agnes married and as she only had 2 sons I haven't a clue about other family names.

Hi Ironmax,
I don't appear to have replied to this message. The Sime/Syme family of Leith area I have been tracing is David Sime married Mary Bell 1816. their children were David 1817, Alison 1819, Helen, Thos 1825, Charles 1829. My direct ancestor is Agnes Sime born 1811 (!) to Mary Bell. The father of Agnes was a Thomas Darling, but I don't know which Thos Darling.

HI,  I also am looking at John Ferguson and family. (I am related )  Cannot find where John was born and who his parents were.  His death certificate  1870  shows his father as Donald Ferguson and his mother as Janet McNie.    There were no sons named Donald .  Ist son is Peter and second  girl is Mary.     I am related to Colin his 6th son.   TALK ABOUT BRICK WALLS.    Census  shows that he waas born in Callander  , many fergusons ther but not mine.

   Cheers,

Hi
I have a lot of family in Kirk Lane late 1700's through to mid 20th century. Have you seen the Blair Drummond Moss census of 1814 and read about the moss clearances started there by Lord Kames? People came down to work there from Killin and Balquhidder - I'll bet that is where your McNie is from! Lots of them in Killin even today.

Hi Val

Yes thanks but I have the census, last year I actually went to Flanders Moss that they are preserving, its an amazing place it gave you an idea of what our ancestors went through on Blair Drummond Moss . I still havent been able to find anything before Catherine and Malcom who came from Balquhidder  it may always be my brick wall.

Thanks Robyn

Just checked my tree - I have an Isabella Ferguson married Duncan McFarlane 11 Dec 1863 - the family lived in Kirk Lane. Children were Janet 1864, David 1865 and Robert 1867.

My Malcom McNie lived at 42 Kirk lane in 1814 (could be 1812 when the census was done in Kirk Lane as know it took 3 years to do) right next door to a Donald Ferguson at 43. I know Daniel was often changed to Donald as a name which happened to my Daniel at no 43 - I also have McFarlanes and McNie/Mcnee's marrying there.

I have tried to post some photos but they were too big ...
a couple of photos of Kirk lane I took recently and one of a gravestone in Kincardine by Doune cemetery - it is a weird looking thing! There is a sketch of it in the MI book  - it reads "heir lyes the corps of Jennet Ferguson spouse of George Bachop  27.11.1750 age 50

pm me if you want a copy!
