Skelton&Ewbank
« on: Wednesday 30 August 06 00:25 UTC (UK) »

I am having great difficulty in tracking down information concerning Anne Skelton bC1798 who married at Camlin C1826,my James Charters from "Glendona" Gobrana.I believe he may have been an army captain/farmer.
They had a son William Skelton Ewbank Charters who came to Australia.Charters Towers Queensland was named after him.
It would seem to me that his second Christian was his mother's maiden name and the name Ewbank manother family connection.
I found a marriage Coxwolds of Robert Skelton to Susannah Ewbank 19.10.1785.They had at least 10 children all born Coxwold late 1700s to early 1800s,including an Anne b1786.She married George Moon,so this would tend to indicate that this is not the correct Skelton/Ewbank family.

If the Anne Skelton who married James Charters came from Coxwold,he may have met her during military service.

I believe "Glendona",Gobrana, post town Crumlin,Parish of Camlin (near Glenavy),offers accomodation to this day but I would not expect any Charters connection today.
James Charters was farming there at the time of his death in 1861.I have the text of letters written by Anne (Skelton) Charters from Glendona House in the 1860s to sons who had moved to Australia.

I will greatly appreciate help in making the Skelton/Ewbank/Charters connection.A good starting point would be to obtain confirmation of the parents of Anne (Skelton).
