Now ... it might just hate me - but on two occasions recently I've purchased their "500 credits for £5".
Each original view costs 75 credits (I've yet to find anything for less than 75 credits mind), but I find the thing very unstable, it frequently says "Error", suggests you return to the Home Page and when it does, lo and behold, your credits (shown at the top) have disappeared by another 75.
It recently cost £5 to view just 3 original census transcripts - I complained, but they weren't as quick to reply as they were to take the money - and they didn't give me the option of a 'printable' receipt like Ancestry.
As I say, it might just be me they hate, but thought I'd just mention it.
Not sure - as its been a while since i have used the 1901 census £5 credit system - but when i did it was 75 p to look at a typed transcription of the 1901 census and it cost £1.50 to look at the original census image.
You mention in your post that you looked at three original census images, this would indeed cost £4.50. What annoyed me was you were left with 50p waste as you couldn't use it!!!!!
Rather than pay for anything until you have to why dont you post who your searching for here on Rootschat as it is 100% free..........

I have, many times - to the extent that I'm beginning to feel really guilty, as I'm afraid it may begin to look as though I'm expecting others to do all the work for me - which isn't the case at all.
But, since there doesn't appear anywhere else to say it, (apart from under each individual topic) I'll take this opportunity to say "thank you" (again) to everyone who's replied to my queries - looked up things - suggested places to search and told me how to do this or that, and, I'm trying to repay their kindness by 'passing on' favours when I can.
