SMALLMANS from Upton Bishop, Herefordshire
« on: Friday 01 September 06 17:31 BST (UK) »

Hi,
I'm looking for information on John Smallman who married Mary Wood 19.10.1801 Upton Bishop, Herefordshire. John was a shoemaker.
Their children:
Amelia 1802
Maria 1805 died as infant
Lydia 1809
John 1809
James 1813
William 1814
Mary 1817 died as infant
Amos 1818
Eliza 1821

William 1814 is my 3x great grandfather. He married Elizabeth (no other name) and in 1881 they were in Crowhill, Upton Bishop. he too was a shoemaker.

Does anyone have access to the 1841 or 1851 census for upton Bishop that can look up any of these people for me? (or later censuses if you have them!)

Any help greatfully received.

ScRoppers,
Thank you very much for the information you sent. And so fast too!. I can stop searching Herefordshire for a while as I search for John and Mary Smallman in Glos. I'm sure I'll get back to Herefordshire as they all live near the border and keep hopping backwards and forwards!

Can I trouble you to wave your wand over another Smallman problem when you get the time?
John Smallman and Mary Woods daughter Amelia Smallman born c1802 Upton Bishop, married a John Gillett born c 1797 Linton, Herefords Died 2.5.1860. Children Mary Gillett 1831
Samuel Gillett 1834
James Gillett 1840
Thomas Gillett 1842
Amos Gillett 1842. All born Linton.

I have been told that John Gillett married before Amelia to a Milbrow Smallman (nothing like keeping it in the family!) We can find no trace of her birth or death. But she and John had the following children:
John Gillett 1824 linton
William Gillett 1826 linton
Mary Gillett 1828 Linton
Eliza Gillett 1830

Can you find any reference to a Milbrow Smallman ar all. As she must have died about 1830 it's probably unlikely...just wondered if there were any other Milbrows about?

The oldest child with John and Amelica (sic) Gillet in Linton 1841 is William born 1827 ...

Loads of Milbrows in Herefordshire, many parishes and surnames ...
