???Am hoping someone may be able to help me with obtaining info re my G gp's. I know they married in 1881 in Loughbro' Nottinghamshire. Had several girls and 2 sons (at least)Edwin Harold b1899 and Thomas Edwin b1906. Allegedly Thomas and wife Elizabeth died during the 'blitz' I don't know if was the result of. or the time frame. When Thomas E Taylor enlisted in the Grenadier Guards c 1922 he gave his parents address as 13 Robo(?) Cottage, Bambury Street, Nottingham and brother E. Harold lived at Leicestershire Nottingham. Apparently Harold died during the war as well, and Thomas (junior) migrated to Australia c1950 and died c1980's. Any help will be most appreciated

Hi Abygail,
Are you sure they were married in 1881?
The only match I can come up with in 1901 is this one: RG13/2978 75 4 Loughborough, Leicestershire 1 Chapel Ter Thomas E Taylor, head, 21, Coalyard Labourer, b. Yorks Sheffield Annie E, wife, 21, b. Notts Hyson Green Nottingham Harold E, son, 2, b. Loughborough
I can see a birth for an Edwin Harold, but I can see Harold Edwin Taylor June quarter 1899 Louhhborough 7a 134
Do you think they are the ones?

All I could find on the 1881 Census was
1881 Census RG11/3342 Lordsville Rd ?? Radford Notts
Thomas TAYLOR/Head/26/Carter/Carman/Radford, Notts Elizabeth TAYLOR/Wife/23/Snenton, Notts Eliza J TAYLOR/Dau/4/Snenton, Notts Thomas TAYLOR/Son/12 months/Redford, Notts
Which could be our couple, and either Thomas could have been married before, or perhaps Elizabeth had children, or perhaps they married after their children were born. Or.... it may not be them at all..... funny though that this Elizabeth's birthplace is Snenton

Thank you all for confirming I was on the right track. Thank you for the extra names for the children. I have only started on this family in the last few years, have located an Uncle here in Australia but unfortunately the family is pretty well spread to the four winds and the oral history isn't that good. One could say it is a rather disfunctional one as no-one seems to feel the need to stay in contact with each other. Thankfully my maternal side was /is very much into staying in touch regularly. I know a 25 year gap seems a little to big, (1881 - 1906) but I have a maternal GF born 25 years after his parents married (1876 - 1901) someone is the baby of the family and it was normal for families to cover 20 - 30 years. I had found a marriage in 1881 for Thomas Edwin TAYLOR and Elizabeth GARNER Vol 7b Page 333. The family seemed to like repeating the Thomas Edwin as it has been repeated over 3 generations, before it was stopped (I think it has). I had asked Uncle about the Taylor's and he doesn't remember much, as he joined the Navy as a young lad, the war (WWII) came along and in between a lot happened that he missed out on and he migrated as well. GF did work as a pony boy in a coal mine prior to enlisting, apparently he wasn't particularly fond of his older sisters. Uncle remembered some friction re GGF not staying in the mines as well. Which brings me back to asking, - how difficult is it to locate deaths that occurred during WWII?

Hi Abygail,
Just for completeness sake, here's the 1901 for them - which doesn't show a son Harold Edwin. RG13/3163 127 16 South Wilford, Nottinghamshire Edwin Taylor, head, 46, Farmer, employer, at home, b. Beeston Notts Elizabeth, wife, 46, b. Nottingham Edith Martha, dau, 18, b. do. William Henry, son, 15, Farmers son, b. Wilford Mabel, dau, 9, b. do. Annie, dau, 6, b. do. George Harrison, serv, 14, Ordinary Ag lab, b. do.
Honestly, if they were mine, I'd get hold of Thomas Edwin's birth cert to make sure he's the son of Thomas Edwin and Elizabeth.
As for deaths, the indexes can be searched here: http://content.ancestry.co.uk/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=8966&offerid=0%3a7858%3a0
If they were war victims, you could also check the Commonwealth War Grave Comission site: http://www.cwgc.org/
