Tough Kirkyard Lawrie burials
« on: Saturday 02 September 06 19:45 BST (UK) »

can anyone tell me if the liars / graves of -

George Lawrie, Crofter, of Waterfold, Tough, Whitehouse, Aberdeenshire (Native of Ellon who died on 26/02/1897

and his wife -

Clementina Lawrie (ms paterson) who died on 02/08/1916

are at tough kirkyard - the surname often changes between lawrie and laurie .

I would be so grateful to find the resting places of my forefathers - regards - luc

I've had a look at the Memorial Inscriptions for Tough Kirkyard transcribed by the Aberdeen & NE Scotland Family History Society (www.anesfhs.org.uk) and regret to say that the list does not have the names of your forebears although there are quite a few Patersons.

Number 42 in the MI book  for the kirkyard of Tough.  My family were at Waterfold, Tough as well -  perhaps they knew each other.

Erected by John Beveridge and family, in loving memory of his wife Elizabeth Lawrie, born 11th March 1867, died 15th November 1931; also the said John Beveridge  born 5th March 1856, died at haybogs,Tough, 5th June 1933; also their daughter Jessie Carter, died 13th December 1944, interred at Migvie; also their daughter Georgina, died 3rd May 1970; also their eldest son Captain John Beveridge M.M., died at Ashford Hill Berkshire,15th July 1973.  Be not afraid, only believe

hi weemary,

I wonder if John Stephen Beveridge and his wife Elizabeth appear in the tough 1881 or 1891 census?

I have john in the 1861 and 1871 censuses.

regards Luc.

think I found John -  living with his parents and a brother, at Haybogs, that would match with his death

will send you a pm with the details

Thanks a lot Weemary,

Thanks to you kindness I know know so much more about Elizabeth Lawrie and John Beveridge !

So John was helping to work the family land and Elizabeth was in service in 1881 - the other very intertesting thing was that George Lawrie/laurie (born 1829) Elizabeth's father was not a home on the 1881 census although he did not die until 1897.

I wonder when Elizabeth and John Beveridge married and when their children were born - hopefully before 1901?

I haven't found how the Grandson - William WALKER aged 5 born at Ellon was the child of - has to be the son of one of the Lawrie/Laurie  daughters I suppose ?

Regards - Luc.
