hi everyone, this is my first post after discovering this site a week or so ago!.
one of the branches of my tree that i'm searching is the McEwans, however i'm starting to discover a hitch. i'm finding what seems to be correct information however there's an 'e' where there should be an 'a'.
is it possible that someones mispelt the name, and its all the one family, or is it possible that there are 2 famillies in north knapdale called McEwan and McEwen.....or am i asking to hard a question
would love some advice from people who know the area.
many thanks, rachel.

I don't know what date you are looking at here, but spelling in the 19th century was most definitely not set in stone. You should look at all likely variants and even some crazy ones! There could be several families, but without dates, I wouldn't like to comment. Work back from what you know.
Have you checked out the official Scottish certificates site - pay per view but good information available on the certificates and census info? :
