Hello to all you techies
I am posting this cry for help on behalf of my father-in-law.
Tonight, I have managed to re-set all his internet connection settings (somehow he managed to get rid of them!!) so all is working ok there, but I have come across a couple of problems:-
- The task bar appears at the top of his desktop, not at the bottom, as it should be. I have tried to find a way to get it back but couldn't find anything obvious. Does anyone know how to do this?
- When I click on the Internet Explorer icon (Google is his home page), only the top menu bar appears....with File, Edit, View etc.......and nothing else. All I can see is the desktop picture underneath. Can anyone advise what is causing this and how it can be rectified?
My father-in-law has a habit of deleting things and fiddling with things he knows nothing about, so I hope he hasn't done anything too serious.
Many thanks
Jan

Hi Jan
TASK-BAR - You should be able to click and drag this to the bottom of the screen. Right click on it first to make sure there's no tick against 'Lock the taskbar'. (Once back in position, right click on it again to restore the tick.)
MENU BARS - Click on View, then Toolbars then select which of them you want to be visible. (Try 'Standard Buttons' to see the difference)
Hope this helps!
Dave

Thanks for your reply Dave.
TASK-BAR - You should be able to click and drag this to the bottom of the screen. Right click on it first to make sure there's no tick against 'Lock the taskbar'. (Once back in position, right click on it again to restore the tick.) I have done exactly as you say above!!! but even with the 'Lock the taskbar' unticked, I can't drag it to the bottom. It gets stuck halfway and won't move any further.
MENU BARS - Click on View, then Toolbars then select which of them you want to be visible. (Try 'Standard Buttons' to see the difference)
I don't think I explained myself very well here!!!! Once Internet Explorer is open, only the Menu bar appears at the top of the page, the rest of the page is not there. So, I can see Internet Explorer at the top, then the menu bar, then the browser bar where the website addresses appear, then nothing. It's like the rest of the page is invisible!!!! Does that make sense?

Thank very much Downside.
I will go to father-in-law's tonight and give it a go!!! Hopefully, it will all be sorted.
I do try to tell him not to fiddle too much with his computer, but he's 70 years old and reckons he's a real computer whizz By the way, he said that these latest problems must have been caused by themselves Aren't they all!!!!!!
I shall report back tonight

Let him fiddle with it. It's his.
I agree with him, I think that each computer has a little Gremlin inside. They lull you in to a false sense of security and just when you think everything is perfect. BANG!!!!! Tomkin

Okey dokey........i've been back and done exactly as Downside said!!
The task bar is now in its correct place at the bottom of the screen, but Internet Explorer still isn't right even after Resetting It's still showing the same.....top Welcome bar, then the toolbar bit with File, Edit, View, etc etc then the rest of the screen doesn't appear.
Any more suggestions anyone?
Thank you
Jan
