Brilliant - looks like they have changed it a bit.
No more walking in to the records office and walking out with piles of papers all related to their family. Barbara had to wait for a package from the Archives. Plus she did some searching on her own PC which made a change from the researchers doing it all for them.
Loved the fact that she got so emotional about her Great Grandad being in a workhouse. As she said "They are part of her regardless of how far back they are" - exactly our sentiments Babs
Can't wait for next week now

Great to revisit The Metropolitan Archives, Bury St Edmunds Record Office, Cork City, even the lovely little village of Bures. Happy memories of my own in these places too at one time or other in my family research... Thought the whole programme was excellent... keith

Another exellent programme ('though I'm not a particular fan of Ms Windsor). But her journey to Ireland brought a lump to my throat as it was very reminiscent of my own. So few English people know about the famine and Britain's role in it. I knew about the plight of the match girls who worked at Bryant and May, as the late Bill Owen wrote a musical about it called The Match Girls.
Altogether a very interesting episode.......

Can't believe the John Constable link, I wish I had someone as famous as him to have in my tree.

Robert Lindsay was born Robert Lindsay Stevenson on December 13 1949 and grew up in Ilkeston, Derbyshire as one of three children in a close-knit family.

I enjoyed her natural and un-affected reactions too. I was a fan of Barbara's in the days of the Carry On films and her other early offerings - I'm afraid I just can't watch Eastenders!
Isn't it strange, how one side of a family can end up with money and the other end up in the workhouse I had a similar thing in my family Paula - one of my ancestors made the mistake of naming his grandchildren in his will. I am descended from a grandson born after the old chap died, so he never got any inheritance - it all went to his older siblings and cousins.
