TARMENT Family « on: Tuesday 12 September 06 22:26 BST (UK) »
I've traced a family back as far as Priscilla Tarment born c.1798 in Redbourn. I can't get any further with the IGI (which has her marriage but not her birth), but it seems to be a name peculiar to the Redbourn area and over the county border into Luton and district. Does anyone have any knowledge of its origins?

Hi,
I searched the Redbourn Parish Records and found Priscilla's baptism with the surname TARMAN (copperplate crystal clear) 22April1798 Priscilla Tarman d/o Joseph and Elizabeth. Also Joseph Tarman 12June1796 and John Tarman 22May1802. And as a bonus, the marriage of Joseph Tarman and Elizabeth Wingrave at Redbourn on 11Oct1785, witnesses Matthew Grace and Moses Moody.
Regards ... Peter

Superb! So "Tarment" is the IGI's fault. Thanks so much for the information.
