Here is two attempts, first a stock standard repair and adjustment; the second
an attempt using a new technique. It would be interesting to hear anyones
comments on the second one.

Skippy.

If you are only interested in the boy on the right then
here is as close as I can get and maintain features.

Mike.

Hi Denn,

It looks as though you have selectively used some sort of embossing technique to add a subtle 3D effect. Tasteful (in moderation)

cheers,

Hi Denn,
It's certainly a very interesting technique. I can see that there could be many occasions when it would be useful. Experimenting on a wide range
of different photo's would determine that.

As promised here is a short description of the method used to emphasise the detail in the pic’

First of all complete any repair or adjustments and flatten the image.

Now make a snapshot

Go to filter-stylise-emboss, play with the settings; in my example I used a depth of 4 and a strength of 80.

Make a second snapshot

Now using snapshot one as your active image and snapshot 2 as your source, paint with the history brush using whatever mode suits your fancy.

1st image – no change
2nd image – using overlay mode
3rd image - using soft light
4th image - using pin light

The best thing is to experiment with different emboss settings, different types of picture and selective painting.

Thank very much Mike and Denn....I was really struggling to get this pic sharper and now I've got
2 good versions.

Thanks again.
