help with family of William Culton
« on: Sunday 17 September 06 04:50 UTC (UK) »

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me about the family of William Culton who arrived in Australia about 1850. He was born about 1838. His parents were William Culton, farmer and Ellen Culton formerly Maclean. According to family he had at least 2 brothers, one went to Canada/ United States where at one time worked for the Midland railways, the other to New Zealand. I have no other information about the Cultons but Ellens parents were James Maclean and Mary formerly Johnstone. James died in 1848. The other children I know of emigrated to Australia, James born 1826, Ann born abt 1833, Jane  born abt 1837, David born abt 1838, Eliza born abt 1841 and Mary born abt 1845. James Maclean moved from County Monaghan to Tyrone in the early 1800s with the family  growing up in the village of Dyan. The family in Australia gave their home as Caledon, Tyrone. I have run into a brick wall here.
Many thanks
