Poor Relief
« on: Sunday 17 September 06 14:05 BST (UK) »

Hi  Smiley
While in Glasgow at The Mitchell Library, I was able to look up the POOR RELIEF on their computer.

Is there a POOR RELIEF for England?
I would like to look up my London ancestors to see if any of them claimed.

If so where is it? And how do I view it?

Thank you

You will soon know if your ancestors were claiming poor relief - they would be in the workhouse in the census records - or on a birth certificate.

I think there were other methods, too, of receiving money - others may be able to help here.

Thank you Meles,
I think we had some births or deaths in a Battersea Workhouse.
Will double check.Might contact the London Metropolitan Archives.
