Hi ...welcome to RC !! Wink  I have done another version for you but we could all do a better job for you if you scanned the pic ( if you have it ) at a higher resolution. say 300 dpi  minimum... It's not that we need a picture bigger physically ie  a 6X4 photo isn't any better if you scan it making it 8x6.... What we need is a pic with more pixels per inch ppi  (or as some scanners still say, dpi (dots per inch)

 That way we can retrieve more information and make a clearer image for you . Sorry if you already know this .. we often feel like we may sound patronising on here but it's sometimes difficult to know how much  a person actually knows about the resolution of a pic .. ! Smiley Wink

 It's trying to strike a balance between sounding patronising cos someone has the knowledge ...and making someone feel daft cos they haven't!!! ;

 Cheers anyway Cheesy

Thank you polldoll, you didn't come across as patronising at all, I am so new to all this and literally placed the photo on the scanner bed and it the button!  I will have a look when I get home from work tonight and see what I can do with it.  Unfortunately I don't know much about d.p.i !!!

Thank you for the advice, if I can manage to sort it should I re-post it here, or would I just be being a nuisance?

Thank you Cazza, will see what I can do with it tonight.

Yes it is a lovely picture, unfortunately I don't have the memories that go with it, only a vague memory of my grandfather and the two other ladies in the pic, both my aunts - unfortunately all of whom have now passed away.  The two little girls are my cousins.  So the photo is very special to me as it is the only one I have of my grandfather and the only one of both grandparents together.  I believe it was taken early 1950's.  I do have the original photo but it is probably only about 3" square and very faded,but will see what I can achieve with it on the scanner - do you know if it is possible to enlarge the photo without distorting or degrading it.

You have all been very helpful, thank you all very much  Cheesy

Photo rescanned at 300 dpi and also 600 dpi - don't quite understand all this dpi business but hopefully you will!

Good luck and thank you so much

If you look very closely or zoom in on a photo on a screen...you will see it is made up of lots of tiny dots...so the more dots (per inch - dpi) you have....the denser the colours and the better quality photo....it's the same with printers....to get photos to print out at photo quality...you need a printer that can print at a much high number of dots per inch than regular printers.

Consequently, photos that are scanned with higher dpi, gives us more dots to play with and you get a better restore Grin Grin
