Sharpening the images?

I've been sent these 2 pitures today and they both seem blurred.
I've tried to 'sharpen' them up with my Picassa photo effort but not made much difference unfortunately. Is it possible to improve their appearance in any way?? Thanks, hopefully from Poli.

sorry, they have come out so large. the original ones that were sent to me which i 'saved' to my documents were much smaller, what happened? Huh

As I say - it shows up marks more when I use a filter - I usually then go over it and remove any spots - which I will do if you wish - but thought I would show you the partly done one.

Thankyou Keith, any improvement is good. The house fascinates me now it's clearer. It was sent to me by a relative who just said it was a family house in Wales. I had to email back at once and ask "where in Wales"?? I'm itching to know which, if any, of my lot lived there Grin

It is really great to have help in 'tidying up' photos. I have quite a few original photos of 'old' relatives but have also received a few pics by email by a recently found relative and it's nice to know i can get these pics in better condition before i print them off. Poli

Please, if possible suggest to your relations to scan any photos at a high resolution (600 if possible) so then we can all help to restore the images to a good standard.
