Hi polly, as the only copy i have is a very bad grainy photo copy, it is hard to tell, thought he had odd looking eyes and there is a lot of shadow round them........ Huh  I really don't know, but i do like the look that he has with glasses, seems to soften his features a bit  Grin thank you.   don't know what ranking he had, next task is to try and find that out!

Hi Kaz

Glad you like the photo. Unfortunately I couldn't use the same technique as I did on the other soldier as I lost too much detail and I did finish it in a rush so it didn't turn out as well as it could.  In any, case it has to be a slight improvement on the photocopy.

I've started doing this lark in July so I've got a long way to go to catch up with Polly's skill but I have been hooked ever since and highly recommend it as a hobby! Not sure if I told you already but I used Photoshop Elements 4...(cos it was nice and cheap  Grin Grin) and I don't really know what the difference is between this and Photoshop 4 (I presume Photoshop Elements 4 is a watered down version of Photoshop 4  Huh).  Best advice I can give you is experiment  as much as possible.

About the glasses, I couldn't say as the filtering in Elements 4 isn't that good...so if Polly says they are there, then that's good enough for me! Grin Grin

Cheers

thank you Cazza, my photoshop is elements 4 as well.   i have bought a training cd for it, which is quite good and easy to follow.......but......there are no lessons on it, so it is a matter of watching a bit and trying a bit and hoping you have absorbed enough to try what you have learnt, this is the bit i am struggling with at the moment!  Trying to remember what I have learnt!   Would have been much better if it had lessons at the end of each section!  But where there's a will theres a way and it does make a nice break from searching for the invisible rellies when you keep coming up against brick walls.

Anyway, thank you for all you have done

Throw the manual away and just play, find out what works and what doesn't...that's what I did... experiment and try different things...iit's a lot of fun  Grin

PS Football was good but ended in a nil all draw...(my team had  23 brilliant shots on goal against the top team from the league last year who had only 3 shots on goal,  ...and not one of the buggers went in the net  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I have started with a basic photo of my late father, it was an old passport photo, an original that had a stamp across the corner of it.  It was probably one of the most simplest tasks to do, but thought it would be good for a beginner.  I can still see flaws in it and struggled with his shirt colar, but for my first attempt I am pleased with it so far.  Still a long way to go but we all have to start somewhere, and I have enjoyed this so much.  I also had a photo of my father and myself that had paint splattered all over it, it it one of the few pictures i have of us together, and just taking all the little white dots out and brightening it a little has totally transformed it......just love my new hobby! Grin Grin Grin

Well have been trying to attach it so you can see, but keep getting an error telling my there is already a file with the same name and to rename and try again, which i have done several times but it wont let me attach  Huh Huh Huh

Hi Kaz,

Well done for your first attempt.

The part I use a lot at the start is "levels" - hope the next 2 photos might help - do the same thing for the 3 colours!
It helps to put the photo back with the original colours

Cheers

Keith

Thanks Polly, Cazza and Keith, always helps to know there are people there to help.

Thank you for the advice Keith, will try that one out today.  Still haven't finished with the photo of my father, going to use this one to get some practice as it is a nice basis picture.

Thank you all, will keep going!
