John Fraser of Inverness
« on: Thursday 21 September 06 19:23 BST (UK) »

John Fraser was an agent for the Bank of Scotland at Inverness. He married Helen Grant, of whom I know (of think I know) quite a bit. They had a large family, including:
Anne Faser, b 1830
Isabella Fraser, b abt 1818
John Fraser, b 1818; m Charlotte Augusta Mackie 1845
These three emigrated to Canada in 1845-6 and lived in St. Thomas Ont. He was a minister. The girls married in Canada.
Hope to find out something about John Fraser (father), as well as the other siblings. Also cannot find info on Isabella's birth.

Sources consulted:
1851 and 1881 census of Ontario
Scotlands People
"Ancestors and Descendents of Alpin Grant" (gives a lot of detail, but I have no idea if it is authoritative or not)

Hi  These are my great great grandparents.  Two other sibblings would be Jane and Helen, Isabela and John are new to me. I have a lot of work on Helen Grant and family but am looking to expand on John Fraser too. Looking foward to hearing from you!

I got what little I have from an old book, that I'm not sure I trust. I haven't been able to find a thing on Isabella, but she did end up living next door to my Ann Fraser in St. Thomas in Canada, so I do believe they are relatives. And I think she was in that little old book. John Fraser was definitely Ann's brother, a minister of the church who emigrated to Canada. He married my great-grandparents.

I too have quite a bit on the Grants, but John Fraser is a brick wall for me -- there are thousands of John Frasers in Inverness. Which line are you from?  I can give you what I know of Anne and John's family.

Another snippet from a book on the history of St Thomas Ontario:
"In 1849 the Reverend John Fraser, a native of Inverness, came to St. Thomas.... He is a brother of Mrs VanBuskirk (nee Ann Fraser, by great-grandmother) and of Mrs Rally (Isabella Fraser) wife of the Reverend W. Rally..." (p 108)
