Need help with birth
« on: Sunday 07 November 04 03:35 GMT (UK) »

i am trying to track down information related to a Samuel Pasfield whom I am led to believe was born about 1789 in Great Wakering, Essex. I have no idea as to who his parents are, and he was transported to Australia as a convict in 1814, after being convicted in 1813. Because I have no idea of who his parents are, it is making life very difficult for me in trying to trace this line of my family, and I cant find any records to do with the area where he stated he came from. Is there anyone out there who may be able to help me? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Sherrie

have you knowledge of the LDS family web site - just incase not:

www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

Sometimes your lucky enough to find the odd BMD entry of parish records there. Sadly its down for maintenance at the moment but no doubt will be up and running this evening : )

Much happiness

Hi Debi,

Yes, i have tried the Familysearch website, but with no luck, and it appears that they do not have the parish records for the time period I need, I was told that there was a fire that went through the area sometime in the 1790's, and the records were destroyed but have not found anything on this, and am living in hope that one day I can solve this birth mystery!

Manga Cool
Contact the Essex Family Research centre at Chelmsford, Essex
www.esfh.org.uk    tel no 01245 244670 or E-mail: office@esfh.org.uk
who will be able to advise on your request.
If the records exist, hopefully they will have them?

Sherri,

The familysearch.org website does contain the Samuels baptism record...

~~~~~~~~
Samuel Passfield
  Male   Family
~~~~~~~~
Event(s):
Birth:  1790   Great Wakering, , Essex, England

Christening:
Death:  15 JUN 1838

Burial:

~~~~~~~~
Marriages:
  Spouse:  Jane Pearce  Family
  Marriage:  1817   Sydney, , New South Wales, Australia
So your best bet is to get someone who's going to the Essex Record Office to have a quick check of the original record. I believe they do exist for that time period but could be wrong.
Regards
Sorry to disagree Paula but that entry is submitted by a church member and the birth date will be based on some other record such as marriage cert or census.
Manga, if you do as Bryant says that could be  a help. It is possible that somewhere holds the Bishops Transcripts for that parish, they would have been transcribed regularly and submitted to the diocese or similar (if they exist at all Smiley) and so would not have burned.
