There must be a million ways of doing this but just out of interest to the restorers could we compare methods. my personal preference is to start by using the threshold tool to find the darkest and lightest parts of the picture. Then using the curves I set the black and white point, then hopefully use the centre dropper to find a neutral grey point. In this case I followed by just a very minor tweaking on the shaddow/highlight tool. I also think it benefits from cropping the excess background, this was by the way the first thing I always do so that there is no chance of the excess influencing any adjustments,

Similar Denn - except on my software it is called "levals" - alter the 3 colours in there - using the centre arrow to alter the colour what I think looks best.

Here's another method in photoshop that a lot of people either don't know about or have forgotten about and that is Variations. Using the Variations menu gives you a quick way of getting in the ball park.

I desaturated (perhaps too much) and consequently looks flatter than the rest.

Thanks! ;)Good to be back thought only for a day or so, then off to the sun for a couple of weeks. Just been out of action due to illness. Good to see new folk doing their bit also.
