Looking for Charles WARD
« on: Sunday 29 March 09 13:55 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I am looking for any info on Charles Ward born early 1800's.

He married Eliza Howes 18th June1827 in Long Stratton, Norfolk and lived there in the 1841 census, but his 2 children Charles Ward  20 June 1830 and Eliza Ann 1827, both christened 4th July 1830 at Stonham Aspal.

I am wondering if Charles the father may have come from but having trouble finding anything about him, so would be really grateful for any info, thanks

have a couple of possibles but no way of knowing if right one.

have you got him on 1851 as this would give his place of birth?

Thanks for your help Diddy, the 1803 looks a possibility as the 1814 would be too late as his daughter was born in 1827, but as you say no way of knowing if it is the one.

The 1851 census shows his wife Eliza living in Stratton alone as head of the house, so I presumed Charles had died.

One other thing on his son Charles birth certificate, Charles senior's profession is given as Licensed Victualler, but again I haven't been able to find anything else.

Thanks

what is Elizas age on the 1851?  there is a Charles Ward death on transcripts and freereg 1850 age 74 but would mean him born in 1776. death in lodden - not too far from Long Stratton.

Eliza was 46 in the 51 census, though it could be possible that he was that much older.  Again how do you know.

I still wonder why his 2 children were christened in Stonham Apsal when Eliza was from Long Stratton and they lived there in 1841. I wonder if any parish records of the chidren's birth/ christenings would give any more info on their Father, Charles.

Thank you Anne for your help, that certainly gives me more info to go on and I didn't know of another child, William.

It looks as though he was in service at Stonham Aspall, although I need to find out if the link to Long Stratton is just because of Eliza. I now need to try a find out when and where Charles is from.

do you have any info about Elizas family?  the stratton christenings could have been by a member of her family.

I have Eliza's birth as 22nd Feb 1804, St Mary Stratton found on the IGI. Her parents John and Elizabeth Howes were married Framingham Earl and John lived in Stratton in the 41 census, though not sure where they were born.
