You need to go to this link instead: http://shaunspage.rootschat.net/home.html
You could create a page that takes you from index.html to home.html. When it searches for http://shaunspage.rootschat.net/ it tries to find an index.html file. As Gedmill didn't produce one, you get an error. Or of course, you could just link everyone to http://shaunspage.rootschat.net/home.html

All you need to do (Ha!) is either change the name of your front page to "../index.html" or try putting a front entry page onto your site called ".../index.html" with a link to your "home" page.
There's plenty of help on here eg
Bob's tutorial for building websites: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,93490.0.html
The companion help thread in particular this one on building sites with GED programs: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,70811.msg289868.html#msg289868
If I was in your position I'd have a crack at having a frontispiece page ".../index.html" which says on it "enter" with a link to your ".../home.html" page. It doesn't have to be complex at all - just the web-site title, a picture (place or people) if you wish, and a big hyperlink on "Enter here" or similar. [The danger of changing "home" to index" is that you then have to change all the other links in your pages pointing at "home" to "index".]
There's a link to a tutorial on making a home page with Notepad here:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,23923.0.html
You might find you can knick some code off someone else who has a similar entry style page - try looking at the list of Rootschat websites:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,23896.0.html
To look at the code on someone's site, just right click on a blank bit of the page and select "view source"; this will open a file in Notepad showing the HTML code.
Have ago, and if it doesn't work, seek advice on here. There's plenty of supportive folk (who were all beginners once) who will help you out.
Good luck
JULIAN

Where should such a file sit - does it need to be in an index files folder on the website? Gedmill seems to have created an "index files" folder for me but I'm not sure what to put in it.
Your index.html file needs to go in the main (top) directory in your Rootschat webspace. The key thing is to get your link from your index page to go to the "home" page, so you do a hyperlink that says http://shaunspage.rootschat.net/home.html ie in code on the page you put
<a href="./home.html">My home page</a>
using Bob's example page.
Looking at your site as it stands (using the above link) it looks like you put all the generated files in the main dirctory of your Rootschat webspace - probably no need to put anything in sub-directories unless Gedmill has generated any output in sub-folders
I hope this is comprehensible!

Hi retiringtype,
Just thought I would but in here to say I was in your position not that long ago - and with Bob's help and others - I can upload a new page in seconds now!!
It all looks so daunting - but just remember the first time you tried to drive a car - "put your left foot on the clutch pedal - put the gear stick into gear ........ Ohh I'm never going to remember to do everything in the correct order!!
Keep at it!!
Cheers
Keith
