George Hone, the Barber of Bicester

Is there anyone who is researching the Hone family from Bicester?

I am trying to establish whether Mary Ann Hone who married William Parsons in 1851, was the daughter of George Hone, who was a barber in Market Square, Bicester between 1841 and 1871.

Also, who was George Hone's wife. I know that she was Mary and that she says she was born in Gloucestershire.  I think she may have been Mary Lett but would like confirmation of this if anyone has it.

Look forward to hearing from anyone with Hone connections.

Hi Jen ...

The 1841 census has a Mary HONE (born c1829) living with her father George, a barber, in Bicester.  There's also mother (?) Mary (born o/c) and siblings (eldest one born c1828).

From the OFHS's Oxfordshire Marriage Index (1538-1837):

02 OCT 1826 - George HONE to Mary FLOREY at Bicester
10 APR 1834 - George HONE (w) (Bicester) to Mary LETT at OX St. Peter B.

I would say that Mary's mother is Mary FLOREY, and George's wife - who appears on the 1841 census - is Mary LETT.

Hi Pennie,

Thankyou so much. I had the census from 1841 in which it says that Mary was born out of the county, plus later ones which give her place of birth as Cirencester, Gloucestershire. I had also found the marriage to Mary Florey but the Floreys were a Bicester family so that didn't make sense with the censuses. The little tell tale w next to George's name on his second marriage is probably the answer to everything, isn't it.
