Hi Genni,

The family you found is the family I am tracing:

John Emil MAASS and Rose Matilda JAME'S children:
William Stanley MAASS born: Elmore 1898 Reg: 18438 died Geelong 1980 Reg: 11985 (surname: MOSS)
John Leslie MAASS born: Bendigo 1906 Reg: 16024 died Heidelberg 1942 Reg: 7815 (surname: MOSS)
George Clifford MAASS born: Echuca 1910 Reg: 18995

now all I have to do is get the marriage certificate of John and Rose. can you suggest what name to check for... after looking at this it gets a bit confusing..

I would suggest the marriage certificate of Rose JAMES & John Emil MAASS (although they have transcribe it as MINAAS) will list both sets of parents.

also this one put up by Jenn is it the same couple??

Rose James  Married  Jno Emil MMAASS gLONG 1896 REFERENCE IS 1635r

thank you all so much for your time

cheers Raels

Raels

When asking for the marriage use the JAMES surname and use the Reg no: 1635.  If your doing it online go straight to the download image page, do not need to search as you already have the Reg no.
(R) indicates that they have referenced it twice.

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

Sorry its taken me so long to get back to this thread but I now have possesion of two marriage certificates

First one is for John Emil maass and Rose Matilda James married 1896
Second is the marriage of Matthias Mass to Anna Maria Borger(s) 1866
parents of Matthias Maass are Peter Maass and Katernia (Katherine) so the one Tropicalj found may well be a brother to Matthias. I now know that  the birth place for Matthias was  "Femarn". Now Fehmarn is the third largest German island on the baltic sea coast. It is part of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.(this info supplied by Dap  Kiss thanks dap) Matthias is listed as a Miner age 24 and Anna as a Maid servant age 20 I still dont know when they came to Australia have looked on the goverment site but have trouble entering info dont think I'm putting it in the write place as i get nil results

Cheers Raels

Hi Everyone just thought I'd let you know the death for Matthew is in fact the death for Matthias.....he died aged 39 occupation Miner cause of death: infection of the Lung and Exhaustion...poor man worked himself to death.

Still no closer to finding when he arrived in Australia as time in country was listed as unknown.

Raels.
