The meet in Hastings is yet to take place but, as the nights draw in and the Winter Sun and Skiing holidays are thrust before us, I was wondering if you might cast yourself forward a few months to a possible RC Meet in the Scottish Highlands some time next year.
I thought that a weekend meet in Inverness/Highlands might be a nice option - scenery, history, monsters, archaeology, etc. and if it was before June and after August, no midges It could even be fitted in with a family holiday. Travel here via that el cheapo airline is pretty good.
I notice that there hasn't been a meet held north of the border - and Pam says she tried to get interest in Glasgow/Edinburgh at some stage but there weren't any takers
So are any of you interested?

Well I'm definitely interested in a Scottish meet. You have painted such a wonderful picture of you Scottish idyll, the area must be worth another visit. I would combine with a week/fortnight holiday to justify coming up that far.
Was looking for an excuse for another excursion north of the border

Grandad Harry's back for another year!
|
Hi all, Hubby and I are planning a trip back to his hometown (London) next year, and also plan to sally forth across the border into ancestral tramping grounds in the northeast of Scotland - Inverness being one of the places we plan to visit! Don't know yet when we will be there. We want to come in the middle of the northern summer (midgey season!) just because every other time we've been back to England it's been winter, and the weather has been incredibly depressing. Plus, this way we get to miss the Canberra winter! So, no definite dates or plans for us yet, so if there's interest in your idea, Gadget, we might see if we can plan around it. Prue

Hi Prue There won't be midges in Inveness - just West Coast Certainly a tour of some of those distilleries we found the other week might be in order.
So 5 of us so far - Arranroots did say she was interested but she's hiding in a closet somewhere

Hi Gadget,
Could combine it with a trip to see son no. 1 who lives outside Crieff. Sounds interesting.

Some of the attractions of the Highlands (Glasgow and Edinburgh are well known) -
Culloden, Skye, Bonnie Prince Charlie and the military roads Crofting,Highland Clearances and emigration Callinish, etc. Loch Ness Monster Whisky Distilleries and lots and lots more history and scenery

Having a fraught week here, all my machinery is packing up at once. My own reseach would be Black Isle mainly, but happy to do anywhere - family permitting!

Go on Arranroots - I have very beady eyes
I was trying to provoke a response and it worked
You'd love it up here - who knows, next year you'll have lots of time.

Crofting and Highland Clearances sound interesting Gadget as does Whisky distilleries.
My mum and dad visited one 2 years ago and bought home whisky for my brother and brother in law but none for Pete because he doesn't drink it! What about me

I'd be interested, lovely part of the county, would have to be later in the year for me though, as am off to Australia in May/June to visit parents-in-law for their 50th wedding anniversary - hoping to get more done on their family history before then
