Unfortunately, I have never had the pleasure of visiting Shropshire, so I'm hoping that someone can give me some local information.
I've just started to track down my Pughs from Manchester back to Shropshire. Arthur Pugh has put his birth place on various cencus material as
Haston Nadwell Ellesmere
I'm hoping that a kind person can tell me how close these areas are to each other, or was he just confused or trying to confuse me
Many thanks for your time
Fiona

Many thanks Jeff,
Hmmmm the plot thickens.
I've definately got the right chap in Manchester and I thought I'd found him in Shropshire but with him keep putting different places of birth down, it's too 'iffy' to be sure.
Oh well, back to the census
Many thanks again for your time
Fiona

The Arthur Pugh on the 1841 is in Superintendent reg dist ELLESMERE
Reg Dist Baswich
Parish Middle
The Township of HADNALL contains the Hamlet of HASTON
so all is not lost! Shropshire is so full of little rural hamlets that the enumerators often had their own ideas of which belonged where.thus there are 2 entries for the same family one of which has a cross through it so do not worry if there seems to be 2 9yr old arthurs in 1841.
