Freshford Cemetery - Anyone going that way?
« on: Saturday 30 September 06 15:08 BST (UK) »

I've recently found thata few of my recent family members (ie 20th century) were buried in Freshford cemetery and I wondered whether others were too  Roll Eyes

If anyone is passing by, I'd really appreciate a look for any Rogers, Sealey or Gunstone burials - some of them are burials of ashes.

In particular - Hester, Lancelot, Lily Rogers; Tom Sealey; Ethel Gunstone

Thanks very much  Grin

Just to add - I went to Freshford church and found the tiniest of cemeteries attached. Needless to say there was no sign of my relatives  Sad

Does anyone know if there is another cemetery in Freshford?

Thanks again

I don't have the information you require, but you may well want to look at this website http://www.freshford.com/bradford_home.htm which has a lot of historical information.

Hi SandieB

Thank you so much for the link  Smiley

I particularly like the way they've loaded new photos on top of old ones so you can see how things have changed......

I just wish I could find where my family burials are!

Thanks again

I don't know Freshford that well, even though I live in Bradford on Avon.  However, I found a link via the above website and it appears that there is a St Mary's and St Peter's - so possibly 2 churchyards?  I know someone who lives in Freshford and could check it out if you wish.

That is so kind of you to check for me - I really appreciate it  Smiley

As it happens I've just received a copy of a book on Freshford (via ebay!) and it talks about another bit of land being bought off Freshford Lane in the 1870s in order to make a new cemetery because the one next to the church was full!

I feel another trip to Freshford coming on to have a hunt for it  Grin

How interesting that you live in Bradford - I have a lot of very mixed memories of the place because of enforced half-term visits there as a child to see my paternal grandmother. Rather a difficult lady........

Thanks again
