Connachie or Conachi is the unusual name turned up in my family tree, Alexander born around 1816, with children David, Margaret and Janet...Janet was my 2nd great grandmother. Alexander was married to Margaret ?who was born around 1817 in Kincardine. Is anyone else looking or following this family. Best wishes churchmouse

Hi Churchmouse,
There are a few Connochies buried in the Old Parish Churchyard in Larbert. The family in the attached photo would roughly match the dates for your Alexander and Margaret.
The following list are all the Connochies (including the ones from the photo) who have existing/legible stones in the same Churchyard. Some of the older stones are quite difficult to read so if I've got some of the dates wrong - sorry! I've got the full inscriptions and photos for each of them so if you think any others are likely candides, ket me know and I'll send you through the details (and photos)

The wife's mother lives in Larbert and has a slight interest in genealogy. If there was anything that interests you (such as modern day Connachies in the village), just ask and I'll see if she can help.

Hi all.
I've got an Agnes Connachy, further back in my family tree. Though I presume the correct spelling is probably Connachie. Several other names in the family have been written down incorrectly over the years.
Best regards,
Richard

Hi Churchmouse,
Good to hear from you too. Sadly no Watsons in my family tree. There might be some in a non direct lineage branch, through marriage of a cousin or two somewhere back in time.
Agnes Connachie(Connachy) married Cornelius Hotchkiss(Hotchkies) in Airth in the 18th century. Seems most of the Hotchkiss's living in Scotland seem to originate from this Village, mostly due to the mining of Iron.
Will speak soon,
Richard

Churchmouse, actually from the outskirts of Glasgow. Most of my relations a few generations got out of the mining and into engineering hence the progression through generations to cities.
Was in Airth a few years ago, had a wander around the parish church yard. Couldn't find the orginal one though, think it's in Airth Castle's grounds somewhere.
Surprise, surprise, there is a Watson connection after all, but is not on my direct branch from the 18th century, it's in an offshoot.
One of the many Cornelius Hotchkies second wife was a Margaret Watson, I think both were from the Bothkennar area around the early 1860's, will have a closer look.
Best regards,
Richard
P.S. I best not start a Hotchkies/Hotchkiss thread(topic) or I will be here all day

Hi Churchmouse,
Perhaps it is. The problem is, the IGI records have two entries for this couples marriage one in Bothkennar and one in Tulliallan, which is just over the river Forth, both same names and same date, confusing....
Both locations are both close and someone supplying the entries might have got confused.
Using the official BMD records through Register House generally makes things clearer, but it costs. Sometimes it doesn't help though prior to 1855 for marriages and deaths.
If I come across any more info, will post it up.
Best regards,
Richard
