Surname Interests - EDGECUMBE
« on: Monday 02 October 06 02:01 UTC (UK) »

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for the following family that moved to NZ from Wiltshire in the 1800's.

Anyone who is connected to this family i would be very happy to hear from you.

I have information on the family after they moved - present day, and also information going back to the 1600's. (no details there though just father to father).

Please let me know if you are researching this family.

Constance

EXTRA INFORMATION ABOUT THE FAMILY

We are searching for the ancestors/descendents of George EDGECUMBE born 1845 wiltshire married to Annie HUMME.

he moved to NZ with his father Henry born 1817 in Wiltshire, and a few of his younger brothers. One of these i believe to be Francis Henry EDGECUMBE.

Henry EDGECUMBE was born in 1817 married Martha EYLES in 1842. she was born in Melksham, Wiltshire in 1823.

George EDGECUMBE (his son) co-founded the Waikato Times in the early 1880's with another EDGECUMBE who is probably related to the current Earl. (edward Mortimer EDGECUMBE)

We think we have the direct line back to about 1600 but a few of these we are not %100 sure of.

George EDGECUMBE'S son was John Harold EDGECUMBE.

I would really appreciated any information you might have regarding this family, especially where you fit into it.

Hi there,
We have a BINGO!

I'm tied in to FH Edgecumbe/HF Edgecumbe, and Lulu Kay.

Would be delighted to discuss this further.

Kind regards,

I can go back from Henry 1817 with wives and children through 7 more generations should you not already have found the information
with over 37 descendants

Hi Alan,
Do you produce the publication about the Edgecumbes in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire?

If so, I'd love to make contact again - I sent you an email recently...

Kind regards,
Susie.

Sorry I do not,  that is a guy called Alan Taylor, he has a family tree on Anvcestry.com but it is private, but no doubt you can send him an e-mail via that system.

Hi,
I am researching Jane Eyles who may be a sister to Martha Eyles. Jane married Joseph Moore in Melksham on the same day Martha married.

My mother is Daphne Elizabeth Johnston (nee Edgecumbe). Her father (my grand father) was Henry Hume Edgecumbe (born1881) from NZ. His father was George Edgecumbe propieter of Waikata Times Newspaper. Do you know the relationship with present day Earl Robert Charles Edgecumbe? I have two photographs of family 1893? & 1906. kaye Johnston

Hi   I have been researching the family for the last 10 years, the bloodline from Greorge who strated the Waikata times can at present only be traced to Ralph corn c1570, in St Mellion in Cornwall, there is no link at present to the the Earl of Edgecumbe. The name Edgecumbe is prolific in and around Cornwall.

My name is Mark Edgecumbe and I am the grandson of John Harold Edgecumbe. I was born in NZ. My father - Harold's son and family moved to the UK in the 60's.  My Great grandfather george was in business and owner of the Wakate times with the Earl Mortimer Edgcumbe.

;)Hi Mark  Sorry for delay in reply have been visiting UK for a few days. Have traced the family back to Mid 1500's including your ancestors, funny that those that went to New Zealand they kept the the 'U' in the name those that stayed slowly dropped the 'U' and put in the 'O' not all but most. If you are interested let me know, I would love to add the New Zealand linage to the tree. Can exchange e-mail addresses at a later date if we are quick, and both on line at the same time.
All the best
Alan
