Scarborough Normandale
« on: Monday 08 November 04 09:43 UTC (UK) »

I understand this family were fisherman and still are to some extent.

A cousin has passed on her research to me and it shows a William Hodgson MACKINGS marrying a Jane NORMANDALE at St Mary's Scarborough 16 Dec 1846. Could anyone confirm this for me? Also if it gives any other details.

If anyone can find them on the 1851 with children that would be a real bonus. I know they later moved to South Shields, Co Durham, but they're not on that census.

Hi Jan

Yes Normandale is a well known Scarborough name with fishing connections.  I can check the St Mary's marriage of Jane Normandale for you at Scarborough Library.  I will also check the 1851 census which is available there too.

If I don't get back to you soon please feel free to remind me.

Hi Jan

I had a look today at the St Mary’s Parish marriage records.  The date you had for the marriage of Jane and William was 10 days earlier than the entry I found.  The details are:

26 December 1846  William Hodgson Mackins and Jane Normandale.

I also spotted another two Normandale marriages while I was looking which I have shown below in case they are of any use to you.

27 October 1845 Robert Normandale and Sarah Dixon
3 February 1846 Robert Harrison and Jane Normandale

So there were two Jane Normandale’s married in 1846 at St Mary’s Scarborough!

I couldn’t find William and Jane in the 1851 census I’m afraid.

I hope this helps

Thank you for that!  Cheesy I must remember to look for Mackins.

I remember being told there were 2 Janes in the same time frame - I don't suppose details of the parents were there at all?
Not that I'm greedy, you understand!

Will keep the info on the other two marriages just in case....

Thanks again, Ticker  Kiss

Its a pleasure.
